[Public Debate] The European Union’s reform of international investment law: Towards broader access to justice?
June 16, 2023 @ 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm
The EU has been at the forefront of the reform of international investment law. It has introduced improved substantive standards in its investment protection agreements and proposed the Investment Court System for the settlement of disputes between investors and States. However, how likely is that the EU’s reform will improve the international investment law, in particular the access to justice for underrepresented third party interests?
Speaker: Dr Ivana Damjanovic (Lecturer at the University of Canberra and Visiting Research Fellow at the Australian National University)
Dr Ivana Damjanovic is a Lecturer at the Canberra Law School. Her research is interdisciplinary, exploring the influence of globalisation and politics on international law. She has just published a book that examines the reform of international investment governance and the role of the European Union in influencing normative standards in this reform (Cambridge University Press, 2023). Dr Ivana Damjanovic has qualified as a lawyer in Australia and Croatia and has expertise in international law and international relations.
This seminar will also be an opportunity to discuss the speaker’s book The European Union and International Investment Law Reform: Between Aspirations and Reality, published by Cambridge University Press.
